Östergötlands Museum is a foundation located in central Linköping. The museum and its branches employ around 70 people. The museum's activities span art, design, cultural history, and archaeology. The number of visitors has increased significantly, partly due to an active focus on outreach activities targeting a wide audience and current societal issues. We are a dynamic, project-oriented organization with the ambition to continue developing the region's museums.

The Department of Archaeology and Building Conservation currently has about ten employees working throughout the county on matters related to archaeology, cultural landscapes, and buildings. The archaeologists at Östergötlands Museum work with all time periods and all types of cases, ranging from minor investigations to full-scale final excavations. Our activities are mainly located within Östergötland County, but collaborations with other regional museums may occur.

We are now looking for a

Archaeologist (permanent position)

with prehistoric expertise for handling and project management of archaeological investigations.

About the position

The duties include handling and project management of archaeological contract projects. You plan and carry out archaeological investigations, excavation monitoring, preliminary and final investigations, as well as report writing. The work is done both independently and in teams. In larger projects, the work also involves project management. Other tasks related to museum activities may also be included in the work. This may involve guided tours, lectures, and participation in exhibition projects.

About you

You have an academic degree with at least 60 credits (three terms) in archaeology. We are looking for someone with expertise in Nordic, prehistoric archaeology, with at least 1-2 years of documented fieldwork experience in contract archaeology. You should have a good understanding of field surveying and processing GIS data. Experience in archaeological handling and/or project management is advantageous. We prefer if you have experience and interest in communication.

As a person, you are stable and confident. You are self-reliant and have the ability to drive your processes forward in a precise and structured manner. You easily adapt to changing circumstances. Furthermore, you have good teamwork skills and are adept at making contacts and maintaining relationships. We also see that you have a humble approach and an interest and curiosity in technical solutions in your work. Personal suitability will be highly valued.
